Brainstorming

My niece just got an American Girl Doll for her 5th birthday. I'm thinking of doing a matching set for her and her doll. Have you done this? Any ideas for me?

Mothers’ Day Projects

From the Armchair

I'm trying a new organizational system- putting my circular needles in a plain ziploc bag. Writing in Sharpie the needle size. Then when I pack up a project bag with the yarn and needles, I put the ball band in the now empty ziploc bag so that I don’t lose the ball band (in case I don’t enter the project/yarn info into Ravelry right away). Then when I finish the project I put the needles back in the baggie and I know what size they are and they don’t end up in a pile.

Announcing- The Tan House Brook Shawl

I am so pleased to announce the release of my first published knitting pattern

The Tan House Brook Shawl

[Neighborhood Fiber Co Studio Sock/ Fingering Weight. Rock Creek Park Colorway]

This top-down, elongated triangular shawl is a great project for new and experienced knitters alike. The simple stockinette section at the beginning helps you learn the increase pattern.

Then we add in some fun texture in short bursts which should keep you interested throughout the project!  The result is a very wearable shawl that has a bit of lace without being too fancy for everyday use. Wear it over your shoulders or bandana style to add some warmth and fun to your look!

The Details
Yarn: 400 yards of Fingering OR Worsted Weight
Needles: US 7 (fingering version)
              US 9 (worsted weight version)
Available as Ravelry download for $5 US

Other Features:
  • Link to a video on technique for casting on
  • Check boxes next to each line of direction for easy tracking of your progress
  • Stitch counts at the end of each section to use as a guide

What is the Tan House Brook?

The Tan House Brook is the brook that flows through our property. In the middle of the woods it lends a lot of texture and interest to landscape and the textured patterns on this shawl are reminiscent of that.
